Experiences

How I Like to Spend my Time

  • FIRST Robotics

9277 Outreach Team Lead and programming and mechanical team member.

I have been an active member of the 9277 FIRST Robotics Team, where I gained hands-on experience in various aspects of robotics design, programming, and teamwork. In addition to my involvement with my own team, I have had the opportunity to mentor other teams participating in FTC and VEX Robotics competitions. Through mentoring, I have honed my leadership skills and helped younger students develop their technical abilities and understanding of robotics concepts.

I am a founding member of the 9277 FIRST Robotics Team. I started as the Design Lead and have since taken on the role of leading the Outreach Team for both our team and all the robotics teams at my school. I have worked on mechancial builds, programming, and have led efforts to connect with our community. This includes hosting workshops, organizing events, and participating in community projects to promote robotics and STEM education.

  • ADSA Debater

Ranked Top 10 in Calgary 2024

In 2023, I joined my schools debate team- a big jump from someone who was heaviliy focused on stem activites. Through consistent practice and the desire to improve, I ranked in the top 10 in Calgary and advanced to the provincial level. This experience not only boosted my debating skills but also enhanced my communication, which helps in my STEM pursuits. I believe everyone should try debate at least once, as the skills I gained are valuable across all areas.

  • Drone Designer at University of Calgary

Worked with the Intelligent Dynamics Control Lab to create an efficient method for crop monitoring using IoT drone systems.

As part of the WiseUCalgary research program at the University of Calgary, I developed a real-time crop monitoring drone system integrating IoT sensors. This project aimed to optimize crop health and water usage by tracking environmental data such as temperature, humidity, and light levels. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, I gained hands-on experience in sensor integration and data analysis, contributing to a low-cost solution that enhances agricultural efficiency while minimizing fieldwork. This opportunity deepened my understanding of the intersection between technology and sustainable farming practices.

  • Researcher at Vascular Training Platform

Researched Vascular Diseases and neuroimaging techniques at VAST Platform UofC.

I gained hands-on expertise in advanced neuroimaging techniques, including MRI scans and Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound, to assess and analyze cerebral health. Collaborating with leading experts in the field allowed me to deepen my knowledge of neuroimaging applications and vascular health. Additionally, I engaged in cognitive assessments, gaining insights into how lifestyle factors can influence dementia prevention. This experience has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to future innovations in medical science.

  • Government of Alberta Youth Advisor

Represented 1000+ students in Alberta to work closely with the Minister of Education and fellow council members to address key issues in our education system.

In 2022, I was one of 40 students selected from around the province of Alberta to provide input, and youth perspectives and share my voice in provincial education.

I focused on enhancing the COVID reentry plan for students, particularly those in K-6, whose reading and math skills were impacted by prolonged educational isolation. I proposed a transition period dedicated to these two subjects while leveraging STEAM courses to strengthen their skills.p>

  • Apprentice at Creative Destruction Lab

Shadowed Vincent Chaley, invenstor in prime energy, meeting with startup businesses and gaining insights into entrepreneurship and innovation.

In April of 2023, I had the opportunity to attend the 4th seminar of CDL Rockies where start-up businesses presented their products and future development plans to mentors and business people to gain their support and sponsors. Through this session, I shadowed Vincent Chaley, who has experience in the intersection between commerce and agriculture, learning essential skills in trades while getting first-hand experience at some of the world's leading technologies. I enhanced my public speaking skills as I presented my ideas to the mentors and gained knowledge in the business sector while building my network.
